A BIZEN KATANA WITH YOKOYA SCHOOL FUCHI-KASHIRA
Mei; Bizen kuni ju Hiromitsu, 17th Century
The blade honzukuri, iorimune with extending chugissaki, slight torii-zori, forging pattern prominent itame mixed with mokume, tempered edge midare of nioi with cluster of ko-nie, tang suriage, 60.3cm.; encased in a dark brown lacquer saya with copper bands, an iron mokkogata Edo Higo tsuba, (rusted) with lacquered paper binding over black same, copper fuchi-kashira in katakiribori and shakudo takazogan, the fuchi depicting a stream and plants, signed Kikuchi Tsunekatsu and kao, the kashira similarly decorated with a bird flying above a stream, the tsuka with a pair of yamagane nanako menuki with three button kiri design, a shakudo nanako kozuka decorated with a gilt dragon, (slight wear)
