A KATANA IN A RED LACQUER SCABBARD AND A WAKIZASHI IN A SCABBARD
The first mei: Kanemoto, 17th Century, the second Mumei, 14th Century
The first blade honzukuri, iorimune, chu-gissaki, slight koshi-zori, forged with tight itame, tempered edge sanbonsugi of nie and nioi, midare-ba boshi, tang ubu 71.5cm; encased in a red lacquer saya; and a tanto blade hirazukuri, with a single groove to both sides, forging pattern elongated mokume, tempered edge notare, yakizume boshi, tang o-suriage with three holes, 32cm.; encased in a wood lacquer saya carved in relief with a red dragon among clouds, fitted with lacquer kojiri, kurikata and koiguchi, wood tsuka with a large wood decoration of a stylized dragon in place of menuki, wood fuchi-kashira depicting an ox and farmers, a small wood tanto tsuba carved in relief with vine leaves and an iron kozuka with the decoration of a skull, (the blade hamon lost in places) (2)
