A TACHI IN A LACQUER SCABBARD WITH HO-O BIRD HEAD DECORATION
Mei: Tomoshige, 14th Century
The blade honzukuri, iorimune, koshi-zori, with chu-gissaki, forging pattern mostly masame and itame, tempered edge ko-choji midare, o-maru boshi, tang slight machi-okuri, 72.1cm.; encased in a lacquer scabbard decorated in hiramakie with ho-o birds and kiri leaves, the same tsuka decorated with tawara byo and three button gilt menuki of aoi leaves, tsuka-gashira with metal face of ho-o bird, (some damage)
