Lot Essay

although originally attributed to Henry Stacey Marks a set of these tiles bearing a paper label and inscribed on the back A Masson is held in the collection of the Cheltenham Art Gallery. The scenes are based on Shakespeare's Seven Ages of Man and incorporate anthropomorphic birds in the style of Robert Wallace Martin.
