FREDERICK ROBERT 'DEMON' SPOFFORTH, "The Demon Bowler", 1878, by 'Spy', Cricketers of Vanity Fair p.30

The second cricketer portrait to be published in Vanity Fair. The artist, Sir Leslie Ward, recorded that Spofforth was the first cricketer he caricatured. However, Spofforth first arrived in England after Grace's cartoon was published, so Ward's memory may be at fault. Arlott says 'Spofforth was included in 1878...after he took ten wickets for twenty runs for the Australian touring team when, to the amazement of all England, in their first match at Lord's they beat MCC, including Grace, in a single day'. The following year, at Melbourne, he took the first 'hat-trick' in a Test match. In 1882, in a victory from which 'The Ashes' were derived, he took 14 wickets for 90 runs, 7 in each innings, a record that was not beaten by an Australian in a Test match for 90 years
