Sonja Henie, Norway's ice queen, was one of the greatest figure skaters ever. Henie was 11 years old and already Norway's national skating champion when she entered the first Winter Olympic games in 1924. Although she did not finish among the medals in Chamonix, she went on to win gold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936. Henie was under 16 at the 1928 Winter games at St.Moritz but acquired 'star' status with her interpretation of The Dying Swan, which began a new era for the sport. Norway led the medals table with 6 golds, 4 silver and 5 bronze. After the 1936 games Henie retired from competition and began a new career as a Hollywood film star
