Lot Essay
In the summer of 1992, three hundred and forty-nine of among the most beautiful historical creations of Van Cleef & Arpels, since the 1920s, were exhibited in Paris at the Musée de la Mode et du Costume, the Palais Galliera. Among the exceptional pieces were jewels owned by famous personalities such as Mrs Fellowes. Lady Deterding, the Duchess of Windsor and the Maharani of Baroda. The highlight of the exhibition was a sumptuous parure of invisibly-set rubies and marquise-cut diamonds, which epitomised the prestige of the Haute Joaillerie by Van Cleef & Arpels. The sapphire and diamond ring offered here and the bracelet watch, lot 83, were presented during the exhibition.
