Lot Essay

Enamel miniatures by Bouvier are extremely rare. For an early enamel of a young lady, signed and dated 1792, see F. X. Sturm, Émaux peints de Genève, XVIIIe et XIXe siècles, Geneva, 1975, front cover. A later large enamel of 1812, depicting Empress Josephine, is at the Malmaison (illustrated in E. della Santa, Pierre-Louis Bouvier - Album, Nyon, 1978, pl. XIII).
