A LOUIS XVI ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH A MINIATURE
by Jean-Joseph Barrière (fl. 1763-1793), marked, Paris, 1781/1782, with the first charge and discharge marks of Henry Clavel, inventory number 2279 and later French control marks
Oval box, the cover, side and base panels enamelled in translucent plum-colour on a horizontal wavy guilloché ground scattered with pellets, within borders of white enamel dots, the cover centred with a glazed oval portrait miniature of a young lady in curled Louis XIV hairdress wearing pearl jewellery, within turquoise blue enamel mount and frosted gold frame applied with translucent green enamelled leaves, opalescent dots and blue ovolos and flowerheads, the borders and side pilasters similarly adorned
