probably Geneva, circa 1800, struck with the Dutch import mark 1814-1831 for gold and the French restricted warranty mark for gold, Paris post-1838
Slightly tapering flattened cylindrical étui-à-cire, the cover, domed top and base enamelled in dark blue scattered with gold paillon stars and dots and white-enamelled globes, the gold mounts with matted bands stamped with stars flanked by reeded gold stripes, the base engraved with scrolling monogram 'MV'
