A SWISS TWO-COLOUR GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN ENAMEL MINIATURE
Geneva, circa 1820/1830, with prestige marks
Rectangular box, the cover stamped, engraved and chased with scrolling and interlacing foliage on a frosted ground and centred with an oval enamel miniature painted with King Henry IV of France on horseback together with a pauper, greeted by Sully and attendants in a wooded landscape, within a gold mount cast with a husk border, the four slighty bulging sides cast with a band of lozenge-shaped stylized flowerheads framed by leaf spandrels, the base turned with a guilloché ground centred by a peaked lozenge panel with concave top and base to contain foliage, an oval matted gold central reserve stamped and engraved with scrolling foliage, framed by two horizontal stylized acanthus leaf friezes and vertical stamped foliate garlands on matted panels, slightly raised wavy thumbpiece
