The present miniature is listed in Madame Hall's fee book of her husband's works (published in Villot, supra), for the year 1786 (and not for 1789 as indicated erroneously by Villot, p. 89): 'Charles pr (premier?) 240 [livres]'. Hall, who admired Van Dyck's works, owned five drawings by Rubens and twelve by Van Dyck. Several other miniatures by Hall after 17th century paintings are recorded (see G. Cavalli-Björkman, Svenskt Miniatyrmaleri, Stockholm 1981, pp. 96-97, fig. 80-81).
