English, circa 1830, the three miniatures French School, late 18th century
Circular gold-lined black composition box with concave sides, the hinged cover double-opening, the hinged inner secret lid containing a gold-mounted and glazed watercolour and gouache smut miniature of a filthy Abbé caught in the act by a cuckold warrior drawing his sword, the offical lid set with a miniature of a semi-nude girl tying Cupid's wings, the base set with a miniature of a young lady in shite shift showing her left breast, the gold mount cast with a leaf and berry border, slightly raised scrolling foliate and Rocaille thumbpiece
