The present carpet is a superb example of one of the most classic designs from East Turkestan. The four vases issuing pomegranate trees, which symbolise fertility, fill the entire field with an almost overall design. Hans Bidder, in his work on the subject, traces the origin of this design back in the same region nearly 2000 years (Bidder, Hans: Carpets from Eastern Turkestan, Tübingen, 1979, pp.49-53).
