TWO MOMOYAMA PERIOD EXPORT LACQUER COFFERS
Late 16th/early 17th Century
Decorated in gold and brown hiramakie on a roironuri ground and inlaid in aogai with grape vine, tachibana, morning glory and camellia to each side within a border of lines, the interior with sprays of foliage, engraved kanagu; and another decorated in gold hiramakie with lozenge panels filled with a stylized floral pattern on roironuri ground, the back with a spray of foliage, red lacquered interior, with engraved kanagu, (both with old damage)
