A THREE-CASE INRO MODELLED AS ONI'S HEAD
Signed Jitokusai Gyokuzan, 19th Century
Decorated in red, black, gold and silver hiramakie and takamakie, eyes inlaid in black painted and pearlised glass, Shoki asleep in oni's open mouth, hair on the reverse and around the horns worked in scrolls in black lacquer, Shoki's face, arms and undergarment in ivory, nashiji interior, a gold lacquer ojime with a central band of hirame ground inlaid with masks and toys in ivory and mother-of-pearl
