Lot Essay

During the Qianlong period, small jade carvings in the form of fruits, were very popular as fingering pieces. The present lot is exquisitely conceived both as an ornament and as a functional piece. Cf. a similar linked box and cover included in Chinese Jades from the Collection of Alan and Simone Hartman, pl. 86.
