A set of four candlesticks with similar spirally-fluted or Solomonic stems by Francis Butty and Lewis Hearne, 1759, from the Rex Beaumont collection; Christie's, 2 December 1964, lot 10. The bases, shaped-square in form, cast and chased with shells and foliage, are less sophisticated than the strongly rococo shaped-triangular bases of the present set. There are a number of similarities between the bases of the present set by Peter Archambo and the bases of the set of four George II silver-gilt candlesticks, by Paul de Lamerie, 1746, from the Bute collection; Christie's 3 July 1996, lot 67.
