A RARE LARGE KINRANDE DISH
17th Century
The rounded sides rising to a slightly flaring rim, the interior enamelled in iron-red, green and gilding with a central shaped ogee quatrefoil panel containing a dragon chasing a flaming pearl among clouds, surrounded by similar smaller panels containing fish and lingzhi fungus alternating with lozenges, the reverse similarly decorated, all reserved on a diaper ground below a petal band around the rim, break restored
(46.5 cm.) diam.

While ewers, jars, and bowls are quite well-represented in this kinrande palette, see Sekai Toji Zenshu, vol. 14, Ming, Tokyo, 1976, nos. 239-42, large dishes are very rare.
