A LARGE UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND COPPER RED DECORATED CELADON-GROUND BRACKET-LOBED DISH
Qianlong six-character seal mark and of the period (1736-95)
Finely potted with rounded sides, the interior medallion decorated with underglaze blue and copper red to depict flowering tree peony and lingzhi fungus, growing from a grassy mound, the everted rim with floral sprays evenly divided by a butterfly at each of the four cardinal points, all on a celadon-ground including the base, the footrim dressed with a brown wash

Lot Essay

The potters of the Kangxi reign appear to have introduced the combination of underglaze blue, copper red and celadon ground. However, a greater delicacy of painting style was adopted later in the 18th century, as can be seen on this dish.
