Lot Essay

Facetted glass vases seem to have been particularly popular in the 18th century. Most of the published examples have either eight or ten sides, such as the opaque yellow ten-sided vases, one with a Yongzheng mark and the other with a Qianlong mark, illustrated in A Chorus of Colors, San Francisco, 1995, nos. 26 and 27, and the pair of red, Yongzheng marked, ten-sided vases illustrated in Clear as Crystal, Red as Flame, New York, 1990, all of which, like the blue vases, have facetted flared feet.
