Forming a continuous scene depicting groups of figures in conversation in and beside elegant buildings near the banks of a river with a three-masted ship to the left and towering mountain peaks in the distance

Lot Essay

The costumes worn by the figures in these panels appear to be 18th Century in style but not typical of European court dress of that period. It is likely, therefore, judging from both the architecture and costumes, that this scene has been taken from colonial life, possibly in America.
