Qianlong (1736-95)
Modelled as a scaley fish swimming on its side with a little goldfish applied to the cover forming the finial, the scales enamelled blue and gilt, the fins turquoise, the head shaded rose, tail missing

Lot Essay

A very similar fish tureeen and cover is in the Bal collection at the Zeeuws Museum, Middleburg, illustrated by D. F. Lunsingh Scheurleer, Chinese Export Porcelain, London, 1974, p. 220, and fig. 190; and another was in the John T. Dorrance Jr. collection, sold Sotheby's New York, 20 and 21 October 1989, lot 446.
