Lot Essay

Compare the almost identical bidet, also with European wood stand, exhibited, A Tale of Three Cities: Canton, Shanghai & Hong Kong, London, 1997, catalogue no. 157, p. 125. Another, without stand, was in the John T. Durrance Jr. collection, sold Sotheby's New York, 20 and 21 October 1989, lot 396.
