A Renaissance jewelled gold and enamel Pelican in her Piety pendant
The bird with outstretched wings and head inclined above three fledglings, all picked out in black and white enamel with blue and green detail, the openwork gold backplate hung with pearls and set overall with red gemstones, the top set with a classical plasma intaglio engraved with a figure holding a bow and arrow, circa 1600, 7.6cm. overall height (intaglio and some gemstones added later)
