The rectangular cornice above a plain frieze and a pair of glass-panelled doors enclosing two adjustable shelves (one covered in yellow watered silk), above three mahogany-lined drawers, the lower section with a cylinder panel enclosing a fitted interior with a leather-lined writing-surface, three drawers and two pigeon-holes, above a long drawer and a knee arch, flanked on the right by a deep drawer with a coffre fort and on the left by two small drawers, with fluted turned angles, on turned tapering fluted legs, with conforming caps

Louis Necker was the brother of Jacques Necker, financial minister to Louis XVI, and uncle of Mme de Staël. This bureau was probably acquired during one of his visits to Paris and has since remained in the residence of the Necker family in Switzerland.
