The elegant neo-classical marquetry of this table, with acanthus arabesques framing a classical urn in the 'antique' manner, evidently owes a debt to fashionable English cabinet-makers such as John Linnell who is known to have shipped furniture to Russian clients. A related table at the Hillwood Museum, Washington D.C. is illustrated in A. Chenevière, Russian Furniture : The Golden Age 1780-1840, London, 1988, p. 41, fig. 25
