A LATE LOUIS XVI ORMOLU, BLACK AND WHITE MARBLE MANTEL CLOCK
The circular white-enamelled Roman dial surmounted by an eagle seated on a sphere and flanked by lions, above spreading scrolling supports with ionic pilasters with figures emblamatic of Peace and War, on a shaped base mounted with armorial trophies and scrolls, on toupie feet, the dial numbered '365', lacking pendulum
28 in. (71 cm.) high; 23½ in. (60 cm.) wide; 8 in. (20 cm.) deep

This clock is virtually identical to three further examples, two were sold anonymously at Sotheby's New York, 31 October 1986, lots 6-7, while the third was sold anonymously at Sotheby's New York, 20 November 1993, lot 116.
