Unsigned, Edo Period (18th Century)
Black lacquer ground with rich gold nashiji; decoration in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e, and shell; compartments and risers gold nashiji; shoulders and rims gold lacquer; carved wood manju netsuke with Daruma crossing the Yangzi river, unsigned
Both sides with a variety of Ligularia, perhaps togebuki or gakebuki,1 against a background of shinobu ferns
