Kiyose Ikko (1901-86) was born in Tsuruga, Fukui prefecture and from 1915 studied Kaga-maki-e [the traditional maki-e style of Kaga province, originally patronised by the Maeda family] with Tanaka Hatsutaro. Towards the end of his career he specialised in utensils for the tea ceremony.
