A FINE STANDING FIGURE OF AMIDA BUDDHA
Edo Period (17th/18th century)
Carved wood and black-lacquered, with traces of gilding on the face, torso and feet; the hair with a byakugo [whorl of hair in the centre of the forehead]; the three-sectioned lotus pedestal black-lacquered with traces of gilt, some slight old damage
Amida Buddha standing, the right hand raised with the palm facing outward in the semui gesture, the left hand lowered facing upwards and with the thumb and index finger in the yogan gesture, the drapery of his garment finely rendered, slight old damage and wear
