'Ah! My beloved fill the cup that cheers'; from The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

Brangwyn illustrated two editions of 'The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam' in 1909 and 1919. Rodney Brangwyn (Brangwyn, London, 1978, p.181) comments that 'he did a series of oil illustrations which were explosive in colour and extremely simple in treatment, making a total of twenty oils he had expressly painted to illustrate the mighty poem. These, along with his illustrations for 'A Pageant of Venice' by Edward Hutton (1922), were probably the most successful of all his illustrations in oil'.
