Reynaud's Praxinoscope gained distinction at the Universal Paris Exhibition in 1878, and a bronze medal at the International Paris Exhibition in 1879.

The Praxinoscope Theatre was a variant of Reynaud's Praxinosope, in which the moving picture strip was viewed through a printed proscenium arch via a glass window in the lid. A series of twenty interchangeable viewing plates was available from the manufacturer, the list of which is printed on the underside of the flap.
