Lot Essay

This work is a study for the young peasant girl depicted in Pissarro's celebrated oil painting La Causette of 1892 in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (P. & V. 792, pl. 163, see illustration below).

To be included in the forthcoming Pissarro catalogue raisonné currently being prepared by the Wildenstein Institute under the direction of Claire Durand-Ruel Snollaerts.
