SCULL, William A Map of Pennsylvania exhibiting not only the improved parts of that province, but also its extensive frontiers. London: R.Sayer and J.Bennett, 10 June 1775.
Engraved map of Pennsylvania on three sheets, joined, overall 675 x 1330mm. The detailed map extending from Fort Pitt (formerly Fort Duquesne) in the west to the New Jersey border along the Delaware river to the east, showing the numerous camps, forts and settlements, rivers, marshes and mountains, ownership of territory, and industries such as ironworks and mills, boundary lines with outline hand-colouring. (The sheets laid down on thick cloth, the margins overlaid with thin supporting paper, old fold line strengthened with archival gauze.) Rolled.
A fine map of Pennsylvania taken from Faden's North American Atlas of 1777. This important map was first drawn up by Nicholas Scull and published in Philadelphia in 1759. His son reissued the map in 1770, and Faden incorporated it in his atlas a few years later. The map incorporates the whole run of the Mason-Dixon line, and shows detailed routes of the old French roads from Lake Erie to Ohio. Phillips Maps p.674; Schwartz and Ehrenberg, Mapping of America p.170.
