Hand-coloured engraved world map on two sheets, each 1290 x 1010mm, together forming a wall map, 2580 x 1010mm. Decorative engraved title, compass roses, routes of many noted navigators plotted, principal coastal places and features indicated, numerous explanations and notices. (Some light browning.) Mounted on cloth and folding, in original maroon morocco folder, gilt (some light rubbing to extremities). Provenance: Henry Smith (signature on verso dated 1846).

A fine copy of this large world wallmap. The fledgling Republic of Texas, declared in 1836, is recognised in this edition of the map, while English and American claims to the Oregon territory are noted. The latest additions record Dumont D'Urville's discoveries of 1840 in Antarctica.
