Lot Essay

Paul César Helleu and Boudin first met in 1894 in Trouville. Helleu, himself an artist, is known to have owned twelve works by Boudin: one oil painting (the present work) and eleven pastels, which were all sold at his sale at Hôtel Drouot on 28 March 1928.
