A rare mid 18th-Century silver 'Mother and Child' terrestrial/celestial globe pair,
unsigned, the 2¼-inch (5.7cm.) diameter terrestrial with graduated equatorial, all text in Latin, showing only the west coast of Australia, unlabelled, and the west coast of New Zealand, labelled ZELANDIA NAVA, Calfornia shown as an island, a stretch of southern coastline engraved across the northern Pacific Ocean and joining with Japan, the oceans showing various ships, the Antarctic engraved TERRA AVSTRALIS INCOGNITA, the two hemispheres threaded to unscrew at the equator to reveal:
the 2-inch (5.1cm.) diameter celestial, the two hemispheres with traces of gilding threaded to unscrew at the ecliptic, finely engraved with the constellations for the signs of the Zodiac, with names in Latin, and some further constellations in the form of mythical beasts and figures, with some stars shown
