An early 18th-Century silver armillary sphere, signed on the underside of the horizon J Chapotot AParis, the earth ball within meridians and tropic and polar bands, the axis aligned to the ecliptic, all within a second set of meridians, tropic, polar and ecliptic bands aligned to the celestial equator, the ecliptic finely engraved with days of the houses of the Zodiac and names, the equatorial finely engraved with degreees 0-360, the hour dial and meridian similarly engraved with hours I-XII (x2) and degrees 0-90 (x4) respectively, mounted within a horizon engraved with days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils and of the month with initials, on four quadrant supports to a baluster turned pillar and plinth base -- 27/8in. (7.3cm.) high
