Lot Essay

The present work features the same distinctive figure as that in lot 51, Girl with red Scarf and Trousers, painted in the same year. In the context of this picture the disarmingly simple figure pulls away from the group desperate to isolate herself from the adults; a typical cameo study reflecting Lowry's interest in the psychology of child and adult interraction.
