This work will be included in the forthcoming supplement to the Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec catalogue raisonné being prepared by Alain Meric.

The Comte Charles de Toulouse-Lautrec was the artist's favourite uncle, who gained notoriety for his dislike of his nephew's art. However, when this lively portrait was drawn the young artist was on good terms with his uncle, to whom he wrote several letters at the time.
