THREE IVORY NETSUKE AND THREE STAGSHORN NETSUKE
Edo Period (18th/19th century)
An ivory study depicting the Shiba Onko story, the child falling from the large jar in a torrent forming the base, while one of his rescuers is standing on the right holding the jar, details stained in black, signed Kazuhide; an ivory netsuke of a man bathing in a large wooden tub and drying his back with a towel, details lightly stained in black, signed Shominsai; another ivory netsuke of a reptile-headed courtier kneeling, the head carved separately and held with a peg, the base revealing human feet; a stagshorn netsuke of a tengu hatching from an egg and holding a fan; a stagshorn netsuke of Hotei seated on his sack and carrying a child on his back; and another in the shape of a small tsuba of rounded rectangular section
