A rare Steiff 'rod' teddy bear
with blond mohair, pronounced muzzle, stitched mouth, boot button eyes, horizontal seam from ear to ear, black stitched claws, rod jointing, swivel head, jointed elongated limbs and hump --15½in. (39.5cm.) high, circa 1905 (very worn, pads damaged, slight staining and lacks sealing-wax nose)

This is an example of one of Steiff's earliest surviving teddy bears, the 28 PB was manufactured in 1904/5 following the 55 PB, a string jointed bear. An example of which has still not been discovered.
