Sir Charles Brinsley Pemberton Peake, G.C.M.G., M.C., (1897-1958) was awarded the M.C. for his conduct during the First World War and held various diplomatic posts throughout his career. In 1936 he was transferred to the News Department of the Foreign Office and became its head in 1939. He accompanied Lord Halifax to Washington in 1941 and from 1942-3 was the British Representative to the French National Committee, becoming political advisor to the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in 1943. After the war he held influential and important roles in Yugoslavia and Greece.
