ALBERTO GIACOMETTI (1901-1966); & FERNAND LEGER (1881-1955)
Autograph note, in French, signed 'Alberto Giacometti' on the reverse, 2pp, 8°, a brief resume of the early years of his career, born in Stampa, father a painter, 1920 in Geneva and 1921 to 22 in Rome. He went to Paris for the first time in 1922 and since then he has been there every year, making paintings at first and then sculpture (stained, creased on folds).
Autograph letter, in French, signed 'F. Léger', from Paris, November [19]46, 2pp, 8°, in purple ink, to 'My dear Zervos', discussing a misunderstanding over a large abstract painting hanging at the 'Cahiers d'Arts' which has been apparently donated to the Athens Museum by himself but is also on sale at Kleinman's Gallery. He is also interested in the Mechanic painting, also on loan, and says he will phone him to discuss business further.
