Inserted at the front of one vol. (Memories, vol. I) is a one-page autograph letter from Charles Kingsley stating: "Dear Parker, I send the Caxtons. I think it will make 14-15 pages. Don't let the Editor cut it about. I have taken much care with it. He wanted something racy - he has got it..." (14)
