Autograph letter, signed 'A.A. Milne', from 13 Mallord Street, Chelsea, 13 January 1931, 2pp, 8°, to Mrs Solomon, agreeing that her son has 'just that something which marks the fine actor' but urges her to allow her son to continue his education and make his own mind up about joining 'the most over-crowded and heartbreaking profession in the world...Let him regard acting...as he regards cricket'. He has talent but 'I should say that he has ability for a good many other things' (creased on folds, fading around margins).

Shepard, original orange gilt boards, pictorial dust-jacket (wear to extremities, spotted). FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on the front free endpaper 'Jim Solomon from A.A. Milne, 2.i.31' and signed by the author on his birthday page, 18 January. Ownership inscription. Also signed by members of the 1933 production of Toad of Toad Hall and family members.
