Document in French, a secretarial copy of the Treaty of Paris, dated 28 May 1814, 15pp, folio, being the personal copy of Baron Bignon, with autograph annotations in the margins giving the names of the commissioners involved and various corrections to the text, comprising 17 Articles outlining the terms of the armistice between the King of France and Navarre and those of Prussia, Russia and Austria, including Articles obliging the French to feed and give medical supplies to the occupying army and ordering France to pay 25 million francs in cash to the foreign governments, the first payment in January 1815, the last in December of that year (creased on fold, thumb soiling).

Lot Essay

A personal copy of an important historical document belonging to Baron Louis Pierre Bignon (1771-1841), Napoleon's Secretary of State. At the beginning of April 1814, Allied troops occupied Paris and Marmont signed this capitulation, agreeing to supply the enemy with money, supplies and food. Napoleon was forced to abdicate and leave for exile in Elba.
