Lieutenant-Colonel Esmond Moreton Sinauer, O.B.E., M.C., was born in August 1885 and commissioned into the Royal Engineers as a 2nd Lieutenant in July 1905. Advanced to Lieutenant in January 1908, he was attached to the Egyptian Army in the same month and went on to witness active service in the operations in Southern Kordofan in 1910, although no verification has yet been traced for his Turkish Order of Medjidjie. Sinauer remained with the E.A. until late 1912 and was advanced to Captain in October 1914. Twice Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the M.C. for his subsequent services in the Great War, he latterly held the Acting Rank of Major. The early 1920s found him employed at the War Office and he was placed on the Retired List in July 1925. Re-employed in the Second World War, Sinauer was placed on the Special List and gained advancement to Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel in March 1943.
