Lot Essay

Farrier-Major Charles Lambert was born near Newark, Nottinghamshire and enlisted in the 1st Royal Dragoons at Sheffield in December 1839, aged 18 years. Following a career spanning 24 years with the Colours, including active service in the Crimea with the Heavy Brigade with whom he was present at Balaklava, he was discharged at Aldershot in December 1863. Lambert had been advanced to Sergeant in July 1854 and to Farrier-Major in July 1855.
